What happened:Â The Lady Braves showed poise at key moments in a nondistrict sweep of the Bobcats 25-18, 25-16, 25-19 on Tuesday night in the Everett Chavez Pueblo Pavilion. They built leads of 16-8, 17-7 and 14-2 in each game, but Bosque School pushed back each time. In Game 1, the Bobcats pulled to within 22-18 before SFIS scored the last three points. Game 2 saw the margin shrink to 18-12 before the Lady Braves took the momentum back, and Bosque almost pulled off a courageous Game 3 rally, getting within 22-19 before the Lady Braves reeled off four in a row for the win. "As a group, we're not quite at the top of our game like we want to be at the end of the season," SFIS head coach Joseph Garcia said. "There is still a lot of growth going on right now."

What happened:Â The Hilltoppers were the more physical team in this nondistrict battle at Sullivan Field. They controlled possession and kept the Demons pinned in their side of the pitch. Los Alamos built a 1-0 lead, then padded it with a pair in the second half. To make matters worse, leading goal scorer Laila Carter missed the second half, and starting goalkeeper Emily Dunston played just 10 minutes before getting hurt. "We struggled in two areas today," Santa Fe High head coach Justin Najaka said. "One, to play out of defensive third [of the field]. Two, we struggled with their physicality."
Top players:Â Laura Villa stepped into goal and recorded six saves for Santa Fe High. Najaka said Kathy Arizmendi had six great chances on goal, but could not score.Â
What's next:Â Santa Fe High (4-2) plays at Valencia in Los Lunas on Thursday. Los Alamos heads to the Albuquerque Academy Invitational on the same day, playing Rio Rancho Cleveland in the first round.Â

What happened:Â The Lady Horsemen didn't give Mother Nature a chance to postpone their nondistrict match against the Elkettes at Christian Brothers Complex. Instead, they ended the afternoon midway through the second half, scoring five goals in each half to secure the win. St. Michael's head coach Alfonso Camarena said it was a good day to get some of his eighth graders needed playing time. It was the fifth time the Elkettes were mercy-ruled so far this season.Â
Top players:Â Sophia Miera led the way with four goals and three assists for the Lady Horsemen, while Illiana Sandoval had a pair of goals as she played most of the match in the midfield. Eighth graders Natania Ortiz and Briana Garcia each scored their first varsity goals.Â
What's next:Â St. Michael's (3-2) gets a week off before playing at Taos on Sept. 17. Pojoaque (0-7) plays Academy for Technology and the Classics on Thursday.
