Santa Fe Community College and the Institute of American Indian Arts will partner for a third time this year to host open house events on the same day.Â
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19, visitors can explore the college campus. The college will host tours of its art studio, greenhouse and film studio, as well as demonstrations of jewelry making, bronze pouring, printmaking and raku ceramics firing. Stop by the Automotive Technology Center for a primer on the college's new electric vehicle training equipment.
SFCC's William C. Witter Fitness Education Center will offer free day passes and class demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 5 to 7 p.m.
From 1 to 5 p.m., visitors may attend IAIA's campus tours, open studios and fully articulating Digital Dome — as well as stop by the university's Land-Grant Garden. In addition to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for IAIA's new mixed-use housing facility, the event will also include a free vaccination clinic for pneumonia, measles and HPV.
St. John's announces lecture and concert series
On Friday evenings this fall, St. John's College invites alumni, faculty, staff, students and neighbors to gather in the Great Hall for free lectures and concerts by visiting scholars, artists and college faculty.
The lectures, which begin Friday, will tackle subjects from Japanese poetry to Christian nationalism and feature performances from student thespians to a jazz trio.Â
"Curiosity and the desire to learn connect us all," Santa Fe campus President J. Walter Sterling said in a news release announcing the events. "We hope to see more and more members of our local community join us for these events."
Santa Fe Community College's library and creative writing program will team up this semester to present the fall 2024 Writing Generation Series starting Sept. 18.
