The important thing is, not whether the opposition and dissatisfaction are well-founded, but that there is serious, widespread and determined opposition.
Sept. 8, 1949: El Teatro’s piano player, James S. Chavez, today was linked by District Attorney Bert Prince with the disappearance Saturday night of $2,000 from the theater office, when the district attorney announced that $700 had been discovered at 312 Staab Street, where Chavez had been staying.
Sept. 8, 1974: Mountain Air President Bill Harris has announced that the airline has purchased the Santa Fe Airline’s certificate of convenience between Albuquerque and Santa Fe and will institute flights daily to and from Albuquerque beginning Monday.

Sept. 8, 1999: It didn’t go over the first time but Gov. Gary Johnson is playing Old Man Gloom again.
With no union contract to block him, Johnson has decided — again — to put a halt to the longstanding tradition of allowing state workers to take four paid hours off work to attend Santa Fe’s Fiesta or the State Fair.
Johnson did the same thing in 1995, during his first year as governor. But state employee unions were able to get the paid leave back by appealing to an arbitrator.
This time, however, there is apparently nothing to stop Johnson from making his decision stick.
