SFCC services unavailable before 11 a.m. Wednesday
Most regular Santa Fe Community College services — including reception, academic advising, registration assistance and the cashier's office — will be unavailable Wednesday until 11 a.m. as college staff attend a convocation employee meeting.
Normal services will resume after 11 a.m. via email, phone, online and in person.
The William C. Witter Fitness Education Center will be closed until noon Wednesday. SFCC's child care center, Kids Campus, and the Santa Fe Higher Education Center will observe regular hours.
Santa Fe Public Schools issues call for volunteers
Santa Fe Public Schools is looking for others who wish to join its corps of more than 700 parent, grandparent, sibling and community member volunteers.
"Volunteers make such a difference in our schools. They help to personalize instruction, further students' social skills and support an engaging and welcoming environment," said Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez in the district's Aug. 9 newsletter.
SFCC to host opening reception for 'The Las Vegas Project'
Santa Fe Community College's Visual Arts Gallery will exhibit “The Las Vegas Project: Contemporary Life on the Historic Santa Fe Trail in New Mexico,” a contemporary black-and-white photo exhibition.
The traveling exhibition features 52 archival photographs and oral histories — centered around life in Las Vegas, N.M., and surrounding communities — by Peter Schreyer and eight master class students from the Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park, Fla.
The reception will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 20. The exhibition will remain on display in the campus' main hallway through Oct. 16.
UNM-Los Alamos to host continuing education certificate programs
The University of New Mexico's Los Alamos campus will offer four additional certificate programs this fall in the fields of python programming, information technology, cybersecurity and early childhood education.
The python program will cost $480, while cybersecurity and information technology will cost $1,500. The early childhood education program, which was developed in partnership with Los Alamos' Bilingual Montessori School, is free.
